August 1, 2016 - Antelope in the burned area by PK Lane on the road to town.

July 31, 2016 - Playing with the hummingbirds.

July 30, 2016 - Going up!  A bull snake 10 feet high in the aspens.

Friday, July 29, 2016

July 29, 2016 - Three more photos from the evening on top of the mountain this week; near the headwaters of the North Fork of the Tongue, sage slopes of Little Bald Mountain, and a bull moose in the willows along the North Fork.

Thursday, July 28, 2016

July 28, 2016 - We took a picnic up the mountain two evenings ago.  It is unseasonably dry this summer.  The only wildflowers left are at the very top of the pass on Highway 14A.  Here are red, pink and pale yellow Indian Paintbrush, Sticky Geranium, Lupine and a few others along the slopes of Little Bald Mountain.

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

July 26, 2016 - A whitetail doe in the tall grass by Hiking House yesterday morning.

Monday, July 25, 2016

July 25, 2016 - A couple of hen mallards on Greenough Lake in Montana on a cold summer day.

Sunday, July 24, 2016

July 24, 2016 - Pictures from the trailcam this week: a small whitetail buck in velvet watching a mink running by the creek, and a young looking coyote a day later.

Saturday, July 23, 2016

July 23, 2016 - Four more morning photographs of the Great Salt Lake and the surrounding Salt Flats along Interstate 80 west of Salt Lake City.

July 22, 2016 - The whitetail fawns are growing up.

Thursday, July 21, 2016

July 21, 2016 - Remembering my first English Setter pup, Pawnee, and her first season.

July 20, 2016 - Summer colors on the prairie not long after sunrise.

July 19, 2016 - The trail cam caught these two handsome whitetail bucks crossing the summer creek near the house.

July 18, 2016 - The North Fork of the Provo River in the Wasatch Mountains west of Park City Utah; the river races across a long terrace of pink sandstone at this point.  It would be fun to see this at the height of spring run off.

July 17, 2016 - This is a panoramic view of the salt flats of northwestern Utah west of the Great Salt Lake.  They are entirely level and seem to make a perfectly horizontal line across the horizon.

July 16, 2016 - Northeastern Nevada is a rough volcanic country of dry, broken mountains, low, flat basins, sage and greasewood.  The great basin is a high altitude desert.  The colors are beautiful in long light.

July 15, 2016 - A lightening fast road trip through Wyoming, Utah and Nevada to Reno: This is the Great Salt Lake looking north just after dawn.  Water is far in the distance.  The old,  renovated, lakeside building is used for concerts and events I am told.  It looks like a Sultan's palace.

July 14, 2016 - My one-hundred year old saddle with the HK brand, and Ken's army issue Colt .45 revolver.

July 13, 2016 - So I had this great idea of a vertical panoramic this morning with the clouds breaking over the mountain; I like the way it turned out.

July 12, 2016 - There was a small fire up Wolf Canyon along the north face about two or three minutes away by helicopter today.  The firefighters filled their bucket in the Duck Pond above the house and worked at it back and forth most of the day.  They left about 6pm, and we haven't seen any more smoke.  Thank You.

July 11, 2016 - The view near the top of Beartooth Pass in a driving rain that soon became a white-out blizzard.  Snow in July!

Saturday, July 9, 2016

July 10, 2016 - It was a beautiful sunrise up the draw out front this morning.

Friday, July 8, 2016

July 9, 2016 - Three photos from the trail camera this week; life along the creek.

July 8, 2016 - Dawn at the Duck Pond, a summer panorama.  Click picture to enlarge, it's better that way.

July 7, 2016 - A sign in The Branding Iron Cafe....

.... I believe Hunter and Wyatt could use a new marketing agent.

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

July 6, 2016 - On the way home from dinner at "The Branding Iron" in Dayton; Mike's horses in the last light before sundown in the sagebrush above Wolf Creek.

July 5, 2016 - Here are a few of the prairie wildflowers blooming now.

Purple Prairie Clover.

Mexican Hat, or Prairie Coneflower.  Ninety-nine percent of these flowers are yellow,

But on rare occasions you encounter a red one like this.

This last one is called Horsemint, or Bee Balm, Lemon Mint, or Monarda.  I like the names of all the wildflowers.  Cowboy's Delight and Sky Pilot are probably my favorite wildflower names, maybe Elk's Lip.

July 4, 2016 - Happy 4th of July; American Independence Day.

This is a male Rufous Hummingbird.  The Rufous return to Wolf Creek almost every year precisely on the July 4th.

July 3, 2016 - Pink rain along the face of the Bighorns at dawn a couple of mornings ago; and the Wolf Mountains to the east across Wolf Creek.

Saturday, July 2, 2016

July 2, 2016 - The young herons at Teal Ponds are almost grown, finding their wings, and should fledge the crowded nests any day.  They already, obviously, possess good balance.

Friday, July 1, 2016

July 1, 2016 - The serpent at the footbridge yesterday was a four and a half foot long bull snake.
