November 13, 2017 - Back to the geese.  At dawn two golden eagles flew into the tallest cottonwood on the pond to watch the noisy proceedings as hundreds of Canada geese still remained.  Fifteen minutes later most of the geese took flight away from the eagles and directly over me.  What a morning it had been watching the great flocks of geese chase the moon and the season.

November 12, 2017 - Happy Birthday Honey.  Love You.

Saturday, November 11, 2017

November 11, 2017 - Last Sunday, twenty minutes after the great flock of Snow geese had flown east over Bozeman Point leaving the country, the Canada Geese began to rise from the pond.  Most took flight before the sun broke the horizon as the first light of dawn colored the Bighorns.    A few minutes after sun up a flock of Canadas circled back high over the pond where many geese still remained.

Friday, November 10, 2017

November 10, 2017 - Last Sunday morning I was up at the Duck Pond in the dark a half hour before first light waiting to see the Snow, Blue and Canada Geese that had come in the storm the night before.  I wasn't disappointed as daylight approached.  The Snow Geese looked like a covering of snow over a third of the pond.  More than a thousand Snows and Blues left first, early before sunrise, while it was still pale yellow dawn in the east.

Thursday, November 9, 2017

November 9, 2017 - For five days last week we had thick, dark, grey, cold weather moving down from the north.  It was a perfect storm for the migrating geese.  Late Saturday afternoon we began to hear the calling as flock after flock of Snow, Blue and Canada Geese came in by the thousands to the four acre pond above the house.  They came for forty minutes before dark and we could still hear them into the night.  This was a unique experience in our thirty years here in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains.  It was wonderful.  I have never seen so many geese before.  Sunday morning dawned clear and bright.
