February 22, 2017 - Before the Chinook; a herd of elk in the deep snow around Dot and Dash.  Fallen City and Steamboat Rock are on the horizon.

February 21, 2017 - The last time I saw the bobcat was on February 8th.  I watched a pheasant fly straight up out of the snow and brush along the ditch and into a tree directly above.  Then I watched the bobcat walk out, look up into the tree and scream at the pheasant.  This bobcat has a temper.  (See first photo.)  The bobcat continued hunting through the ditch, across the yard, and up the draw.

February 20, 2017 - It feels so very good to be back at the end of the road in the middle of nowhere!  Early morning views this morning of the Cottonwoods at the Duck Pond out front, and the Grandfathers out back along Wolf Creek.

February 19, 2017 - Getting closer to the West, and home; the view from 30,000 feet.

February 18, 2017 - Tennessee crocus.

February 17, 2017 - Congratulations J and B.

February 16, 2017 - Cardinal; a trip to Knoxville Tennessee.

February 15, 2017 - Woodburning on leather.

February 14, 2017 - A coyote on his rounds out front a few mornings ago before the big Chinook.

Monday, February 13, 2017

February 13, 2017 - I can't tell whether this is an immature Redtail or Rough-legged Hawk.  He was beside the road to town and very hungry to have sat still for this photo.

Sunday, February 12, 2017

February 12, 2017 - The bobcat visited again on the 7th.  He spent a lot of time futilely stalking the birds near the feeder.  They showed no fear of the cat on the ground.

February 11, 2017 - Frozen creek beds, 12"-16" of snow in the foothills and a 60F, 45 mile per hour Chinook wind;  a recipe for the flash flood we had here two days ago.  Enlarge the photo to see the water flowing over the foot bridge which is normally 3 or 4 feet above the creek.  The blog photo from yesterday is the morning of the flood about an hour before the Chinook and 5 hours before this photo of the flood behind the house.

February 10, 2017 - Just before dawn yesterday morning.

Thursday, February 9, 2017

February 9, 2017 - Grey-crowned Rosy Finches; a common winter visitor on Wolf Creek.  It is not uncommon to have flocks of over 200 birds at the feeder.

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

February 8, 2017 - Whitetails, cottonwoods, and crows on the winter feed grounds along Wolf Creek.  Click to enlarge this one.

Monday, February 6, 2017

February 6, 2017 - The morning last week it was -18F the Great Horned Owl was out sitting in the sun over the cabin instead of hidden in the shadows in the branches of the spruce tree.

Sunday, February 5, 2017

February 5, 2017 - A small band of antelope crossing the wind blown lower flats of the PK mountain pasture moves single file below part of the large elk herd bedded down on the slopes of Dash.  This is a cold, bright winter's morning.

Friday, February 3, 2017

February 3, 2017 - The temperature this morning at 6 AM: -18F; the wind chill: -38F.  And a coyote at his business across Doubledare.

Thursday, February 2, 2017

February 2, 2017 - Bobcat tracks in the yard from a few days ago; and Mountain Lion tracks in the yard from a few years ago.  I make some exceptions to not being a cat person.

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

February 1, 2017 - A small whitetail buck who has shed his antlers.
